OCEAN PORTAL: VIEWS FROM A DISTANCE
Over the last few years, I've been making work in response to coastal erosion and the disappearing landscape due to climate change. Ocean Portal: Views From a Distance is made up of a single-channel projection including videos that were recorded from my drone and a live feed camera off the coast of San Diego, California. I utilize video as a way to capture a physical memory of a place and as a method of recording my observations of the changing California coastline. I am interested in how video makes visible the subtle, mundane, and transformative. This project stands as a witness to human activity, loss, and beauty.
Ocean Portal: Views From a Distance is part of Outside Looking In: A Drive By Exhibition at The Garver located in Madison Wi. The exhibit has been developed with distance-viewing in mind - all work is to be viewed via car or bike, visitors are not to approach the work; but instead, drive around the exterior of the feed mill to take in the unique visual experience.
Exhibit dates April 24-May 31, 2020.
This project was made possible with support from DANE Arts.
